We know weather well at the pier.  In September 1989, the
Kingfisher Pier, as it was known at that time, was
totally destroyed by Hurricane Hugo. Reconstruction began in
February 1992. The Arcade, Tackle
Shop and Cafe opened at Easter while the pier
itself was still under construction. In July,
the pier was in full operation. Since that time, we have
had other hurricanes skirt along the
coast but so far, we have been lucky not to
experience another Hugo.
